Apart from figuring TRPs, producer and Sahara One's head-honcho, Boney Kapoor, is busy working towards getting his movie projects on the floors. One of the most-talked about films in his kitty is the Mr India sequel, which he has been planning for a while now.
The latest news is that the film will take off in 2014, hopefully with his brother Anil Kapoor and wife Sridevi, along with son Arjun Kapoor as the new protagonist.
"I've waited and I will wait for another two years because there are certain rights of the film that others hold. The terms of those rights come to an end in 2014. So, that's the best time to start on the sequel without any legal glitches that may crop up if I try to start the project now," asserts Boney, who also plans to start the No Entry (2005) sequel early next year with Anil and Salman Khan. "For now, I'm working on bettering our channel's ratings with some shows. I'm also looking forward to Arjun and Sri's films that release in consecutive months this summer. Anees Bazmee is ready with the first draft of No Entry 2, which we will take on the floors soon. I think 2012 will go by before I know it."
A year ago, Boney had expressed the desire to have Salman Khan play the part of the menacing villain in the Mr India sequel. Is that plan still on? "Of course," he beams, adding, "Salman was and as far as I know, is still keen. Before you jump to conclusions, it's nothing like Mogambo. It's a brand new character that's in my mind. Amrishji (Amrish Puri) turned Mogambo into an icon. I'm sure Salman will make this new villain an icon too."
The 1987 film ended with Anil Kapoor and Sridevi defeating Mogambo, and living happily ever after with the kiddie bunch. Will the children return as well? "Logically, Anil and Sri would," Boney says, adding, "Maybe I'll cast Arjun as their son and take the story forward. If that happens, I have my dream cast ready in front of my eyes."
