In a little more than a month, actor Imran Khan and wife Avantika will complete a year of marital bliss. The couple, that has been together for a decade now, however, doesn't plan to have babies any time soon. Reason: Imran feels at 29, they're too young to become parents and have a lot ahead of them before going the family way.
"It's hardly been a year since we've tied the knot. Of course, we've been together for close to about 10 years now. We were in a live-in relationship before getting married. So, anyone would wonder why we're not thinking of having children, especially because we know each other pretty well," says the actor who has had two back-to-back successes this year Delhi Belly and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.
"But honestly, having kids is a huge responsibility and that needs some kind of mental preparation. I think we're not ready for that as of now." The actor wishes to write scripts and work in the movies for a while more before becoming a father. "Why single out me? Avantika also has a career of her own. She needs time to do something bigger than what she's doing currently. And I don't want to push her into something that she may not be necessarily ready for," he argues, adding, "And look at me. My hairline is not receding. My biological clock isn't ticking away. So, we do have time to think about extending our family."
When asked if marriage has changed his equation with his decade-old lover, who he met while studying in the USA, Imran says with a smile, "No, it hasn't. Avantika is the same person that she was before we got married. People say there are too many adjustments to make when you start living with someone after your wedding. But for us, it's actually been a lot easier, probably because we were always living together. I'd say the love that we had for each other has grown manifold."
