On Sunday night, actor Padukone stepped out in a black and gold bandhgala, which looked almost identical to the outfit worn by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at an event last week. And no, it wasn't an oops moment for Padukone, 25, who is in fact, being applauded by fashion bloggers and stylists for defying the 'no repetition' norm.
"Wow, in just one week we get to see two beautiful ladies wearing a really similar outfit," writes entertainment portal Pinkvilla.com. Fashion blog High Heels Confidential simply calls it "An Almost Ditto". The outfits worn by both actors were designed by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.
"It is a welcome change that people have stopped criticising actors who wear the same dresses. An outfit can be worn and accessorised differently so there should not be any fuss if someone repeats it," says stylist Ranjunee Chakma. "It is unfair to judge when two actors wear similar outfits. In this case comparing Deepika and Ash is like comparing apples with oranges. We should appreciate the fact actors don't get bogged down by the fashion police and do what they feel like," says stylist Rishi Raj.
Padukone has defied fashion diktats in the past, too. In fact, she set the glamour world abuzz when she made several appearances in her favourite pair of kolhapuri chappals and ganjis. "Deepika doesn't give two hoots about such things, if she likes something, she'll wear it as many times as she likes," said a source close to the actor.
