Akshay Kumar: 'We are no more than escorts!'

Akshay Kumar says actors have led to the bastardisation of art in Bollywood. "We are re than escorts in the industry. We as actors are all playing characters even in real lives pretending to be this guy's or that guy's friend. We have commercialised art completely," says the 45-year old, who plays a banker turned-male escort in his forthcoming flick, Desi Boyz.
And, he doesn't shy from admitting that he has done it too. "I too have gone to a lot of places for entertainment, and done a lot of shows even wedding shows. Everybody does it. In fact, all actors do." He thinks no one should have a problem with that, though. "I don't think there is anything wrong in it because for me that is entertainment, and entertaining the audience is our job."
However, in the movie, he says, they've "stuck to limits". "We are showing escorts who fulfill the desires of people looking for companionships from these guys in certain roles." Not many know that the actor had to take "pole dancing lessons for seven days" for his part with costar John Abraham.
Akki, who teams up with Abraham after six years since their hit, Garam Masala, also put to rest speculation that it was due to his infamous role chopping habit that took them so long to team up again. "These are all rumours. No one can cut anyone's role or edit anyone's part (as is famous for him). No film came our way all this while and if there is something someone doesn't like in the industry than they say it on the face," he says, adding, "John and I have had no problems and which is why perhaps we are going to be seen in Housefull 2 after this and are also signing our third film together this year."
