Rule 1 for return: Akki chucks English!

At a time when most of the Hindi film industry swears largely, and at times literally, by English, actor Akshay Kumar has decided to reject the language.

"Earlier, I used to feel it's cool to talk in English, but now my opinion has changed. I've realised that talking in Hindi is much better," says Akshay, adding, "If you converse in Hindi, whatever you want to communicate is easily understood by others too. Else, in a bid to appear cool, we become uncool." Akshay insists that since he is a Bollywood actor, he should ideally make it a point to speak in Hindi at all times.

"It's not like I haven't spoken in English before, but now, I've taken a decision to talk only, or at least mostly, in Hindi," he says. Unlike his contemporaries, the actor also has no qualms admitting he's "much more comfortable with Hindi". "Achcha hai ki apni matrabhasha mein hi baat karo (it's better if I speak in our mother language only). After all, we're Hindi film stars. We earn our bread and butter from Bollywood."

Ask him if he's advocating the 'desi' language because it goes well with the theme of his upcoming film Desi Boyz and he shoots back: "I don't know if it does, since there is a lot of English in the film because our characters (Akshay and co-star John Abraham) are based in the UK."

Akshay and John last worked together in Priyadarshan's Garam Masala in 2005. Since then, Akshay feels his chemistry with the brawny star has bettered to a great extent. "We worked together after six or seven years. Besides the size of his muscles, John's acting and comic timing has improved a lot too. He's really matured as an actor and he is a close friend," says Akshay.

Ask him what made a star of his stature take up , an offer from debutant director, Rohit Dhawan (David Dhawan's son), and he says: "I have known him since he was a kid. He's grown up in front of me. Rohit belongs to today's generation and young people's thinking is completely new and fresh."
