Jagjit's music tops sales

NEW DELHI, Oct. 16 -- Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, who died last week at the age of 70, is week at the age of 70, is ruling the market even though he's no more. Shopkeepers say the demand for his albums has gone up manifold after his death, and those who'd otherwise never listen to his compositions are also showing a keen interest in his music now.
"Earlier, only a few people used to come asking for his music, but now, everyone wants Jagjit Singh CDs. The stocks are disappearing fast," says Harish Chandra Tripathi, manager at Planet M, Uttam Nagar branch. "Our shop used to sell a single Jagjit Singh CD per day, but now the sales have gone upto 10," says Shashank Singh of Landmark books and music store, Vasant Kunj.
"Roz tees Jagjit Singh CD ki sale ho jaati hai," says Shiv Kumar of Shiv Music Gallery in Lajpat Nagar. Fans say it's their way of paying him last respects. "I just bought three of his albums as a personal tribute to the legend," says Neha Yogi, 22.
