Mumbai, Oct. 20 -- A few days ago, Desi Boyz's title song featuring a bare-chested Akshay Kumar and John Abraham went on air. But not many know that since Akshay and John had to bare their muscular torsos for most of the song, the Khiladi was asked to put on some bulk, while the super beefy John was asked to become leaner.
Since they were working within a tight time frame, director Rohit Dhawan, David Dhawan's son, challenged Akshay to put on the muscle in under 20 days. "I gave Akshay a 20-day challenge, but he managed to achieve it in just 15 days," says Rohit, adding, "It only goes to show that he is one of the fittest actor in Bollywood."
Interestingly though, Akshay, who is not known to be much of a gym freak, didn't pump iron to achieve the results. "He trained himself by following his regular diet with minor changes, and working out a lot by doing Parkour," says Rohit. Apparently, the actor trained hard for about four hours everyday to get the bulked-up look for the film.
For the uninitiated, Akshay already has a black belt in Taekwondo, and studied a variety of martial arts in Bangkok, where he also learned Muay Thai. And apart from pumping R 2 crore in the third annual Akshay Kumar Karate Championship, he also plans to get basic martial arts training and education included in school curriculum across the country.
Besides pulling off the desired look, Akshay also inspired his co-star in Desi Boyz, Chitrangda Singh, to take up his fitness mantra. She reveals that Akshay used to run in a nearby park every day, and now she too has started waking up at 5 am to hit the jogging track. Desi Boyz, also stars Deepika Padukone and will release on November 25.
