Asha Bhosle Had To Bear With Atif Aslam In Sur Kshetra

Music reality show Sur Kshetra of Colors, which is spread across the India-Pakistan borders, has been more in news for the on stage fights rather than the content of it.

It is no hidden fact that the two mentors on the show Atif Aslam and Himesh Reshammiya never happened to be on the same page. However, the sad part is that through this show one got to see rather a bad side of Pakistani singer Atif. Right from the start he was in news for his starry attitude and few of the verbal spats he had picked with legendary singer and one of the judges on show, Asha Bhosle.

Buzz states that recently during the grand finale shoot of Sur Kshetra in Dubai, Atif had a tiff with the organizers and a verbal duel with Asha Bhonsle. The finale was a ticketed event and when Atif came to know about this he refused to perform saying he didn’t want to perform live.

Sources say that Atif felt that had it been a concert, he could have earned a lot of money but here he wasn’t getting anything. In fact, he was even scolded by Asha who called him, “bigda hua”. Reacting to this, Atif said, “Haan, bigda toh hoon kyunki sabka laadla hoon.” It was after much of coaxing that the singer relented and agreed to perform during the finale.

Guess his fans are surely to feel bad over this behavior!

Superhit Pakistani Dramas Of 2012 Highlights

Television may be considered as small screen entertainment but it has given us immense quality amusement through big names in terms of actors and successful drama productions – from the old days of PTV to the recent times of private channels.

This year began with all eyes glued to Khirad and Asher’s tragic love story in Humsafar, eventually introducing us to Durre- Shehwar’s life and later making us witnesses to Aiman’s Maat to her overambitious sister Saman.

we are giving you a list of some of the productions that deserve a tribute for making our year so entertaining.

Humsafar:

Humsafar, which started in the last quarter of 2011 and went on until March 2012, took Pakistanis by storm. Not only was the audience in Pakistan going crazy over it but it had major ratings coming in from everywhere in the world. Humsafar amidst highly positive and some negative comments became a huge hit. Written by Farhat Ishtiaq and directed by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat, Humsafar was a story about a forced arranged marriage which eventually turned into a romantic relationship between the couple only to be maliciously destroyed later.

Khoosat’s epic direction and the way he weaved the words into perfect frames was impeccable. Humsafar was a perfect example of how a simple story, put together brilliantly with strong art direction, captivating acting and soul stirring music, can hold the audience spellbound.

Maat:

Maat was the story of two sisters, Aiman and Saman who belonged to a low income household. Saman, the younger sister who dreamt of making it big in life, was arrogant and materialistic, while Aiman, the older one was compassionate, loving and believed in sacrificing.

Written by Umera Ahmed, the production featured a straightforward storyline, dialogues full of impact and excellent performances by Aamina Sheikh (Aiman) and Saba Qamar (Saman). The drama also featured Adnan Siddiqui (Faisal) as Aiman and Saman’s cousin and romantic interest.

Bilquis Kaur:

Bushra Ansari has been in the entertainment industry for over three decades and is probably the first female actor to make her mark on the comical side of local entertainment. Over the years, she has perfected all kinds of roles from those she played in fifty fifty to Neeli Dhoop and to the recently popular Bilquis Kaur.

In Bilquis Kaur, Ansari aka Billo is shown as a stern, humourless woman who is living in New York since 30 years with her family. She portrayed a woman who stood by her traditional beliefs and forced them upon the life of her children. Trouble came when her younger son Sultan (Ahsan Khan) married the bold and confident Soha (Syra Yousuf).

Directed by Adnan Ahmed and written by Faiza Iftikhar, the drama also stars Sadia Imam, Saleem Sheikh, Adnan Jillani, Nadia Afghan, Khalid Ahmed and others. Where Ansari gave a power-packed performance, the rest of the actors really helped her making this play a huge success for the audience who waited every Sunday to find out more about different layers of Billo and her family.

Durre-Shehwar:

Umera Ahmed’s writings gave us yet another hit.

In this serial, the plot revolved around two couples from different generations exploring the intricacies of life, relationships and their share of problems. Packed with smart dialogue and gripping performances by the cast which included Samina Peerzada, Qavi Khan, Nadia Jamil, Noman Ejaz, Sanam Baloch and others.

Director Haissam Hussein’s beautiful depiction about complexities of married life be it in today’s urban setting or yesterday’s traditional times, showed how certain issues are common in every relationship. It also depicted how powerful a role a woman can play when giving her marriage every bit of patience and resolve possible.

Shehr-e-Zaat:

After Humsafar, Mahira was back with her beauty and charm on screen, this time as Falak in a production called Shehr-e-Zaat. Falak was a beautiful yet unsympathetic character who was shown to be self-centered, loathing poverty and despising ugliness.

Director Sarmad Sultan Khoosat was clear in what he wanted out of Falak’s character, settings and the people that surrounded her. Mahira did justice to her role as a selfish young girl who was head over heals for Salman Anser (Mikeal) and later as a vulnerable, dejected woman looking for God’s help and guidance in her life. Umera Ahmed gave the audience another master piece which made many think about the importance of righteousness and humility in their lives.

Kaafir:

Humayun Saeed’s negative role in Kaafir actually made one feel disgusted by his character. This drama proved how his star quality and ability to reach to the audience never fails. The good vs. evil; directed by Shahid Shafaat gave us the story Shahan Ali Khan (Humayun Saeed) who is living a dual life; in front of his family he pretended to be virtuous but resorted to his evil and malicious side when away from them. The twists were woven captivatingly into the narrative although the play did go a little over board with its bold dialogues and settings.

Mora Piya:

How brilliantly the lead actors Aamina Sheikh and Adeel Hussain managed to take the entire drama on their shoulders despite its drifting script and weak story-line. They shined until the last episode, making viewers tune in simply for their performance as a couple in love whose lives were hit by a tragic incident.

Zard Mausam:

Zard Mausam was a kind of ‘desi’ version of Cinderalla, but this desi Cinderella was not at all perfect and pleasant as the one in the fairy tale. Taking similarities from it, this narrative was about girl whose life changed after her mother’s death and how her step mother (Sania Saeed), who was the actually the first wife of her father (Faisal Rehman), mistreated her and made her life miserable. Saeed in the step-mother’s role stole the show with the helplessness and hatred she portrayed along with other dimensions of her character.

Mera Yaqeen:

Here is a powerful message: if you believe in God things can turn in your favour, you just need to hang in there with a strong faith.

Asfand (Faisal Qureshi) and Maha (Savera Nadeem) is a happily married couple whose lives take a turn for the worse when Maha met with an accident and was left paralysed. She then forced her husband to get remarried to her friend Nazish (Nimra Bucha) who had been divorced twice already. Nazish kept the house and children together and but the problems started when Maha’s jealousy took over. Actors from our entertainment industry keep giving us brilliant performances which are often what glue us to the seats despite weak storylines. Mera Yaqeen is one such example.

The year brings to an end some great performances and outstanding screen plays, but we still have more to look forward to in the form of Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Kahi Ankahi and the upcoming play Mirat-ul-Uroos.

Aamir Khan taking swimming classes for movie Talaash

Aamir Khan who didn’t know swimming at all, has eventually learned swimming for his upcoming suspense drama film Talaash.
That’s not all, Aamir even had to take underwater swimming, which is harder than regular swimming.
Aamir who plays inspector Shekhawat will be seen doing a shot of an underwater sequence.
This sequence required Aamir Khan to do the under water swimming that was shot extensively in London.
Undoubtedly, swimming is something that takes a lot of time, it demands hardcore practice session and commitment towards leaning something completely new.
Aamir’s trainer David helped him throughout the learning process. While he learned primary swimming from Mickey Mehta.
Aamir says “Actually Dave is helping me prepare under water sequence, he is helping me with breathing exercises which increases my lung power and allows me to stay under water for longer.”
Director Reema Kagti who was present during Aamir Khan’s training was quite impressed. “Aamir I really have to tell , I’m very impressed with your swimming”
As a matter of fact the entire crew was amazed to see that Aamir had picked up the swimming so soon

Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur’s disturbed marriage is still a case of speculation and the latest buzz is that the two aren’t contemplating a legal separation as yet.
Karisma Kapoor, who had got married to the Delhi based businessman almost 9 years ago, hasn't spoken about her divorce as yet. And Sunjay Kapur is leaving no stone upturned in making his marriage work.
Banging reports of divorce that have been doing the rounds, Sunjay kapur said to a tabloid, “Why don`t you ask Karisma what really happened then? She is a celebrity. If she is not saying anything, it is because this is none of anyone`s business.”
Kapur’s spokesperson dispelled and said, “Mr Kapoor wants Karisma back in Delhi. It is not easy for him to go on living alone. It`s been seven years.”
Sanjay has been spotted hanging out with Priya Sachdev (ex-wife of NRI businessman Vikram Chatwal) and that in turn had lifted some eyebrows. However, Kapur’s spokesperson said, “She is just a good friend he hangs out with.”
Sunjay had apparently chosen to give sis-in-law Kareena Kapoor’s wedding a miss. And his absence sort of confirmed the trouble in his marriage to Karisma.

Mikaal Has Signed Two Bollywood Films

In 2008, the model-turned actor Mikaal Zulfiqar got his 1st Bollywood break through “Shoot on Sight” alongside some veteran actors like Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah.

In 2011 he appeared as a lead in another flick named “You Are My Jaan”. Where he played a character of business tycoon who fells in love with an aspiring model / actress but like his 1st movie even this movie failed to get appreciation even in the eyes of Mikaal’s ardent fans.

People might be unaware that despite getting failures one after another this blue eyed boy has still managed to grab Bollywood film maker’s attentions. His fans will be happy to know that they will be able to see him in 2 films and he has already signed the contracts.

Pakistani Actress Humaima Has A Glamorous Look in ‘Sher’

Pakistani actress Humaima Malick, who garnered rave reviews for her performance in “Bol”, will be seen in a glamorous avatar in Soham Shah’s “Sher”. Based on the Gujarat underworld, the period film also features Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi and Suniel Shetty.

“Humaima is playing a prominent role in the film. She is playing a Bollywood actress. It’s a period film and she has got a glamorous look in the film unlike ‘Bol’,” Shah said.

A Pakistani television actress and model, Humaima debuted on big screen with Shoaib Mansoor’s “Bol” in 2011.

Shah has finished shooting for the film, except for the two songs. “We have finished the entire shooting of the film and just two songs are left. They have to be shot with Humaima. This is not an item number, but the audience will see Humaima’s dance number in one of the songs,” said Shah.

“We shot the entire film in July and August in Jaipur. It was a 50-day schedule,” added the director who earlier wielded megaphone for “Kaal” and “Luck”.

Ishq-E-Mamnoo: The Voice Behind The Character

With luxurious sets, beautiful actors and protagonists whose chemistry is sizzling hot, Turkish TV show “Ishq-e-Mamnoo” on Urdu 1 has become Pakistan’s new addiction.

To broadcast this Turkish soap in Pakistan, a dedicated team of local actors spent a considerable amount of time recording the voice-overs, under the guidance of Syed Mohammad Shafiq Momina, also known as Jojo.

“When I read the Urdu script and saw the Turkish visuals of the drama, I made sentimental attachments with all the characters,” Jojo tells The Express Tribune. Elaborating on the project, he says that the casting process was tedious because it lasted for months with back to back auditions.

“The dubbing process had begun and we had no one to play Adnan [a lead character in the series],” recalls Jojo. “Adnan’s character was so complicated, that we had almost rejected around 30 actors before relying on Shahzad Ali Khan’s experience.”

The team had to find 18 permanent characters for the voiceovers, with nine of them being central characters in the show. But due to the lack of trained voice actors in Pakistan, Jojo and his team rejected 15 people on a daily basis, which included some seasoned TV actors as well.

“Time management was key because we had to begin dubbing ‘Isabel’ [a Spanish soap] and then move onto ‘Ishq-e-Mamnoo’,” he says, talking about the challenges of finding the right cast in time. “The difference in the translations of both the languages [Spanish and Turkish] was so stark that we found it difficult to sync ourselves with the character voices,” he adds.

A total of 79 episodes — with each episode spanning 90 minutes — of “Ishq-e-Mamnoo” and 143 episodes — 50 minutes each — of “Isabel” were dubbed and finalised over a span of almost seven months.

“It feels great when something you have worked so hard on finally becomes so popular that you see it [as slogans or posters] behind rickshaws. I am extremely thankful to a dedicated team of actors and all the technicians who helped me out,” he says with pride.

Shehzad Ali Khan  As Adnan

A veteran actor who is known for playing a variety of roles on TV, found it difficult to step into the shoes of Mr Adnan. “Although I have been an actor for a long time, this was my first time as a voice actor,” Khan explains. “To be very frank, I was nervous. However, when it became an extraordinary hit, I was overwhelmed,” he adds. “I live in North Nazimabad and ‘Ishq-e-Mamnoo’ doesn’t air in my vicinity but from the feedback that I have been getting, I can comfortably say that the kind of appreciation I have received for ‘Ishq-e-Mamnoo’ as a voiceover is far more than the appreciation I receive for my TV projects. Mr Adnan was one of the toughest characters I have voiced in my entire life because he interacts with everyone and has a different persona every time.”

Riz Kamali As Bihter

Despite her on screen presence for the past three years, Kamali’s big break came with her portrayal of Bihter, the beautiful young wife of Mr Adnan. “It’s funny when you walk onto the sets of one of your television plays and they start asking you ‘Zara Bihter ki tarhan toh bol k dikhao’. All you can do is smile and cherish that moment of glory,” Kamali gushes. “The popularity of ‘Ishq-e-Mamnoo’ has been so overwhelming that most of my family and friends have started calling me Bihter instead of Riz! This affects the ratings of my other dramas as well. Bihter is a strong woman but ends up doing everything she hates. I have learnt a lot from her.”

Almas Fidai As Nihal

Twenty-one-year-old Fidai stepped into the media industry as Nihal, followed by her screen acting in Mehreen Jabbar’s “Coke Kahaani”. “It feels great knowing that my first voice over has received such a tremendous response,” says Fidai. “However, what bothers me is that there is no recognition for voice actors as our names don’t appear in the credits and no one recognises that a significant amount of effort has been put in to giving these characters their voices,” she complains. “As far as Nihal is concerned, I took her lightly in the beginning and later discovered how pivotal her role is in the series.”

Nazzia Momina As  Mrs Denis

Jojo’s wife Nazzia has been a part of the radio industry for a number of years but “Ishq-e-Mamnoo” was her first experience as a voice actor. “To be honest, my extended family didn’t know about my involvement in the series, which they were following on YouTube. But as soon as they found out, they were shocked. It’s funny when people walk up to you and say ‘Aray aap hain woh’ and then go on to compare my features to Mrs Denis! Although I have been affiliated with radio for quite some time, the kind of respect ‘Ishq-e-mamnoo’ gave me is unprecedented.”

Beena Benjamin As  Mrs Firdous

Beena Benjamin of the Benjamin Sisters has been lending her voice to different mediums. But the play and her character, the seductive Mrs Firdous, really struck her. “I have been in the voice acting business for quite some time and I must say that I have not come across a character as strong and dynamic as Mrs Firdous,” says Beena. “I like how Mrs Firdous is full of pride and is an arrogant woman but with a flirty attitude; this makes her important. Although I did voiceovers in Urdu for I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and Express Entertainment’s Turkish play Aasi, this one really stood out. Since it’s a very negative character, people like to hate me which has its own charm. Frankly, I had never thought that this drama would get so much recognition,” she admits.

Syed Jasim Ali As  Bashir& Suleman

Ali was also the part of the dubbing team for “Isabel” before he was selected for Bashir and Suleman, two important characters in “Ishq-e-Mamnoo”. “Playing two entirely different characters at a time in the same play was a very tough call but somehow I pulled it off,” says Ali. “I initially thought that Bashir was an easier character to play but as the story unfolded, his mood swings increased, which made my job as an actor difficult. Suleman, on the other hand, has given me more recognition than Bashir, because whenever I am in a family gathering, kids surround me and request me to talk to them in Suleman’s voice which is very cute and fulfilling,” he says. Ali preferred not to have his picture published.
