Emraan Hashmi gave acting ideas to Esha Gupta in movie 'Raaz 3'

Lest the fans think that he’s begun repeating himself, Emraan Hashmi has clarified that his role inRaaz 3 is different from The Dirty Picture, though he plays a filmmaker in both films. He also admits that he gave acting tips to Esha Gupta in Raaz 3.

After playing a director in The Dirty Picture (TDP), Emraan Hashmi may be seen as a filmmaker again in Raaz 3, but says this time he is playing a character who hankers after profit, not the art.

"In 'The Dirty Picture', I played an artistic director and here I play a 2012 director. He (the character in 'Raaz 3') is more contemporary and relatable. He only wants box office success and there (in 'The Dirty Picture') he had complete contempt for commercial cinema, he used to think that commercial movies are not good. So both are very different," he told IANS in a group interaction.

Produced by Mahesh Bhatt-Mukesh Bhatt and directed by Vikram Bhatt, "Raaz 3", about the downfall of an actress and how she turns to black magic to secure her position in the industry, will see Emraan Hashmi romancing Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta

Talking about Esha Gupta, Emraan said: "In her first film ('Jannat 2'), she didn't get to act much, but in this film she did. Her role is very difficult because it is of a rising star that is vulnerable and loses control of who she is," he said adding that he gave her tips when required.

"She doesn't need me to be her idol and I think she is a good actress. Whenever I get the chance, I used to give her tips," he said.

'Raaz 3' girl Esha Gupta doesn’t get scared easily

While Bipasha Basu has candidly admitted to getting scared easily, Esha Gupta, who plays the victim of a black magic spell in Raaz 3, is not a faint of heart.

Actress Esha Gupta says it was tough to play a part in a horror film like Raaz 3 especially because in real life, she doesn't get scared very easily.

"I love watching horror films because I don't get scared easily. So for me it was like, 'Arey, kaise karungi ye main (How will I do it!)... when I don't get scared, how am I going to act that I am scared, I can't do it'," the 26-year-old said here in Mumbai.

But the model-turned-actress gives full marks to her director, Vikram Bhattfor guiding her the right way.

"I don't think any one could have made me do what Vikram (Bhatt) has made me do. The whole imagination and expressions... I think the whole credit goes to the director," Esha Gupta said.

"Raaz 3" revolves around black magic, but Esha doesn't believe in the concept.

"I don't believe in black magic. But, I mean its never happened to anyone around me or to me, touchwood. I just think if there is good, there is (also) bad," she said.

"Raaz 3", set to hit screens Sep 7, also features Emraan Hashmi and Bipasha Basu.

Emraan Hashmi - the maverick who delivers hits!

He is tasting success film after film, but Emraan Hashmi is not willing to fit into the category of Bollywood's A-list stars. He doesn't want to play it safe and says he is ready to take risks just as he has done with every project so far.

"I have never really wanted to sort myself and other actors by that list. I have always done films that I believed in and yes it is very important for box office collections to do well. I have never really wanted to belong," the 33-year-old said here in Mumbai.

The actor has delivered consecutive hits with Murder 2The Dirty Picture and Jannat 2

"I'd rather not belong to a particular list and just do films I probably did four years back. I don't want to get safer with the success of 'Jannat 2'. I want to do riskier films and make them a success," he added.

He also admits that the masses' verdict matters over the classes' opinion for him.

"I hold the verdict of the people who watch films cinematically in single screens very close to my heart. I go to single screens to watch the reaction of the people. For me that is a big reward. I have always wanted to be a strong mass actor," said Emraan Hashmi.

Emraan's next is Dibakar Banerjee's Shanghai in which he plays Joginder Parmar, a porn filmmaker. He is also set to work in his first 'U' certified film.

Jannat 2 - Movie Review

Directer: Kunal Deshmukh
Producer: Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt
Starring: Emraan Hashmi, Esha Gupta, Randeep Hooda
Music: Pritam
Release date: 4 May 2012

Director Kunal Deshmukh’s Jannat 2 might have been a gripping thriller but is hamstrung by a painfully dull romantic track between Emraan Hashmi and newbie Esha Gupta, not to mention the latter’s plastic expressions and pretentious ‘Angelina Jolie’ pout. A barrage of songs pile more misery upon us, but it’s Randeep Hooda who saves the day for Jannat 2 with his explosive portrayal of a tipsy cop on a mission.

Sonu Dilli aka KKC (Kutti Kameeni Cheez) is an unscrupulous gunrunner in Delhi making an easy buck pushing arms to the folks with violent motive. He is in the crosshairs of a searing cop ACP Pratap Raghuvanshi (Randeep Hooda) who has declared an all out war against the illegal arms traders. Raghuvanshi coerces Sonu to work for him as an undercover informer to help him nab the big fish in the arms trade. But the deal goes awry and Sonu lands behind bars. He later reforms and falls in love with a doctor named Jhanvi (Esha Kapoor), but Raghuvanshi again drags Sonu into the arms trade. Will our hero be able to make a clean break or fall victim to the battle between gun-traders and the vengeful cop?

Jannat 2 does hit the ground running and Emraan Hashmi as the foul-mouthed hustler in the bylanes of Delhi is fun to watch for sure. Randeep Hooda adds fire to the proceedings with his incendiary portrayal of a broody cop. It’s with the coming of Esha Gupta that the film’s graph begins to plummet. The romantic track between Emraan and Esha, how he woos her and how she simpers and finally succumbs to his advances makes for a boring watch. The writers Shagufta Rafique and Kunal Deshmukh show no imagination in chalking out this love story. On top of this, songs by Pritam hamper the flow of the narrative. The film hits the interval point with a twist.

The plot meanders in the second half through many twists and turns, some clever, some lousy, but what stands out most is a nail-biting chase sequence through the labyrinthine alleys of a dargah. The dialogues are well penned, but littered with too much abusive language.

For Emraan Hashmi playing the role of a hustler would have been just another day at job, but one does appreciate the typical north Indian twang he brings in his dialogue delivery. Randeep Hooda is the scene stealer in this crime caper. His gruff demeanor, seething persona set the screen alight every time he appears. The less said about Esha Gupta the better, and Manish Chaudhary as the big fish in the arms trade hams at times.

So essentially, it’s a see-saw of the positives and negatives in Jannat 2. The film isn’t anything to rave about, but Randeep Hooda’s incredible act all but makes up for the botches.

Emraan Hashmi is USP of 'Jannat 2': Esha Gupta

Model-turned-actress Esha Gupta, who is set to make her Bollywood debut with Jannat 2, says her co-star Emraan Hashmi is one of the main attractions of the film.

"It's a Bhatt camp (Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt) film. You know, the film is going to be amazing because of the music. Thanks to Pritam (Chakraborty), we have got amazing music already and the star already, you know, Emraan Hashmi! What else do you think is the USP of the film," the 26-year-old said in Mumbai.

"Jannat 2" is a sequel to the 2008-film "Jannat" and is set to hit theatres May 4.

According to earlier reports, actress Jacqueline Fernandez was supposed to play the role, which ultimately went to Esha. But the debutante says she is lucky to have bagged the film, directed by Kunal Deshmukh

"Yes, that's what even I read that Jackie (Jacqueline) was supposed to do it (the film). But for some reason of hers or the director, it didn't work out. As I say... whoever gets it, it's their good luck," said Esha Gupta who was crowned Miss India International in 2007.

She also featured in the Kingfisher calendar.

Randeep sidelined from 'Jannat 2' promos

"Jannat 2" features Randeep Hooda in a prominent role. He has, however, been sidelined during the promotions of the film, which is set for a May 4 release. Director Kunal Deshmukh says it was a conscious decision not to focus on him.

The crime thriller, a sequel to the 2008 movie "Jannat", also features Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta. The plotline revolves around illegal arms.

"I completely understand if Randeep is upset that he has not been promoted as much, but a conscious decision was taken that the film should be helmed by Emraan Hashmi," Deshmukh, who directed 'Jannat', told IANS.

"At the end, there is only one hero and I don't want to pitch my film as a double-hero movie as it would give a wrong idea about the film. I don't think Randeep should feel bad because when people will watch the film, they will see what he is and how important he is for the film," he added.

The director says explaining promotional strategy of a film to any actor is not required.

"I don't see why an actor has to be explained the promotional strategy of a film before he signs it. An actor should be happy if people come to watch the film," said Deshmukh.
